The sport
A team sport where every pass counts.
Ultimate Frisbee is a dynamic team sport with a character all of its own. You score in your opponent's end zone, but every attack starts with receiving the pull, finding your position and making the right decision under pressure.

In short
Attacking with limited time and planted feet.
Whoever catches the disc may pivot with it but cannot run. From that pivot position the thrower looks for a pass while teammates create space. If the disc drops or the defence intercepts it, there is a turnover.
- Pass your way to an end zone
- No running with the disc
- Non-contact and self-refereed
What makes it special?
The sport is all about choices under pressure.
Ultimate asks for fitness, throwing technique, field awareness and discipline all at once. The rules leave room for intense defence without physical contact deciding the game.
Spirit of the Game
Players share the responsibility for fair and respectful play. When an action is disputed they explain how they saw the situation and find a solution together, without a referee.
Stall count
The defender marking the thrower counts out loud. The thrower has to pass within the allowed count, otherwise the defence gets the disc.
Turnover without stopping play
An interception, a drop, an out of bounds or a late throw ends the attack. The opposition takes over straight away and can attack the other end zone in the same flow.
How the game works
Building possession
The thrower stands still on a pivot foot and looks for an open pass. The disc must not hit the ground or land outside the field.
Creating time and space
Attackers cut in and out again to open up a clear throwing lane. The defence tries to shut down those options and any progress upfield.
Finishing the attack
A point is scored when a teammate catches the disc under control in the end zone. After an interception, a drop or an out, the roles swap immediately.
For everyone
One of the most inclusive team sports around.
Ultimate Frisbee is known for its open culture. Men and women play together in the same team, everyone matters and respect for each other comes before the score.
Mixed on the field
In the mixed league men and women play together in one team. That makes the game more varied and puts teamwork above strength alone.
Every level and every age
From beginner to experienced player and from student to fifty-something: everyone trains together. You do not need a sporting background to join in.
Everyone welcome
Background, orientation or identity makes no difference. Spirit of the Game asks the same attitude of everyone: fair, respectful and open towards new players.
Do I need to be able to throw already?+
No. You start with the basics of the backhand, the forehand and catching. While playing you learn when to use which throw and which run.
What happens if there is physical contact?+
Contact has to be actively avoided. A player may defend space, but must not push, block or force a collision. Players call the fouls themselves.
What is a turnover?+
A turnover is a change of possession of the disc. It happens after an interception, a drop, an out, or when the thrower waits too long to pass.
